Tips for ending the year with a BANG!

This year has been one filled with many ups and some downs for many that I know. If you want to end the year on top and go into the new year with a vengeance, here are some tips from a few different perspectives. Maybe you are the person who had a great year and want to end the year with positive motivation to carry you into the new year. My tips for you are to: Reflect and Celebrate. Reflect on what you have accomplished, acknowledge your accomplishments and take some time celebrate your accomplishments if you haven’t already. It might be as simple as going to dinner with friends, or big like throwing a celebration party. Celebrate in a way the best suits you and be sure to make it a memorable experience. Brainstorm ideas for where you want to be in the new year. Go somewhere out of your normal environment to help you to come up with some innovative ideas. The sky is the limit. Prioritize and Plan. How Leaders Develop, Succeed and Survive

Many strive to be great leaders and some even strive to be at the top level of leadership as a CEO or senior executive. The question is, how do leaders make it to the top level of leadership? This has always been a question which intrigued me, especially after in being a leadership development consultant and throughout my studies in leadership and organizational development. Let’s examine this question from three different perspectives. How do leaders develop to get to the top and stay there? What are the top traits that differentiate top leaders from others? How do leaders survive their journey? How do leaders develop to get to the top and stay there? Morgan W. McCall Jr., professor at University of Southern California (USC) and formerly Center for Creative Leadership, suggests that to some extent is learned and from experience (Gill, 2011, p. 348). Seeds of leadership are often planted early in life and are based on a combination of experiences such as: Early work experiences Short-term assignments Major assignments Experience with very good and …

Celebrate Read a Book Day!

It’s Read a Book Day!! Celebrate today by reading a book, a section of a book, host a book reading party, read to your children; anything to promote reading books. I remember loving to read books since I was a little girl. My mother regularly ordered books from Reader’s Digest and I would read her books, even those I wasn’t supposed to be reading at my age. I was inspired by mystery books at the time. Now I tend to focus on reading for personal development because I believe if you aren’t learning and stimulating your mind, you aren’t growing.  In order to live your best life, you should be sure to include reading as a regular practice. Here, I share books I have been reading most recently based on the topics I typically coach, write and speak about, which is all about executing results in your life, career and business. I also included a fiction and children’s book. Although I rarely read fiction, I had to share a couple of recommendations that are worth the …

Here is the next sneak peek into what readers can expect from My Dream Living Journal. Be sure to check out Part One  at https://dreamlivingcoach.wordpress.com if you haven’t already. The second thing I firmly believe in is that you must identify and carry out specific goals and a firm action plan to live the life of your dreams. I personally live by writing down my goals, action plan and carry it out to get to where I want to be in life. After clearly identifying and describing your dream life, I compel readers to identify specific goals that when carried out will move them toward the life of their dreams. There are also some reflection questions that help readers gain more clarity about how they will carry out their action plan and move toward Dream Living. Some of the questions include: What assistance do you need from others to get to your dream life? What do you need to learn? What skills do you need to develop? What will the accomplishment of your goals and dreams …

Navigating Life Changes

Wow! 2013 is coming to an end and what a year it has been for me, my friends, family, clients, and others I work with in the corporate world. This year has been full of much change both good and bad for many. Can anyone else out there relate? I know I can. With most any kind of change there is stress, uncertainty, and sometimes nervousness, fear, or even frustration. How does one navigate times of change? I will give you 4 steps that I use for myself and my coaching clients. 1. First, you should assess the change and how it relates to you and your situation. Instead of being hesitant about the change, think about the positives the change may bring to your life. It may not be as scary as you think and may present opportunities you hadn’t considered before. 2. Next, let go of what was or let go of the past. According to William Bridges, an expert in managing change; people have to accept that something is ending before they can …

Renewal and Self-Discovery

You might have noticed that it has been a while since I posted a blog. I have been busy not only coaching my wonderful clients but I have also been in a period of reflection, self-discovery and renewal. I have continued help my coaching clients reflect, discover and renew, then realized that I needed to take some time to do the same for myself. You might ask, “What did you learn during this period of time?” I learned quite a few things. I learned that during such periods, I don’t have a lot to say other than sharing with and supporting my clients (of course) and those close to me.However, now that I am refreshed and have even more clarity, I will begin sharing more with my followers as I have more things to say.I also learned more about my calling and purpose. My personal mission is and always has been to ‘help others to live excellent more fulfilled live, ultimately fulfilling their …

Programming Your Mind for Success

In a previous blog called “Self-Talk” we learned that your self-talk is related to what you believe you can or cannot accomplish in life. If you want to move forward and live a life with positive results, it has to start with positive self-talk. Let’s discuss self-talk in more detail by analyzing the function of both the conscious and the subconscious mind. This is an important element to understand because it relates to your thoughts which is connected to your self-talk. The conscious mind is the part of your mind that thinks and reasons, and makes everyday decisions. Most of us are fairly aware of our conscious thoughts as the conscious mind includes everything that is within our awareness. The subconscious mind consists of everything that is currently not in your conscious mind. It stores all of your previous life experiences, beliefs, memories, skills, all the situations you’ve been through, and all images you’ve ever seen. It is important to be aware of our subconscious thoughts because the subconscious mind is running the show and, …
